*Please Read* The Fleet and You.
This is an announcement for everyone, including prospective recruits. It's not in response to any one thing, but it's been due for a long time. It is a statement I would like to make about what constitutes our fleet.
We're a team. We talk together, we play together. If it's good for someone, it's good for everyone. Everything is based on the team dynamic we have. So when you join, you don't just get certain access or certain tags, but you form a link with everyone in the community. Each member is a part of the whole. To deliberately exclude or alienate someone is to weaken the fleet itself.
So if you have a problem with someone, it is best for you to resolve it before it becomes a bigger problem that everyone has to deal with. Remember that we're all here because each one of us has a place here, and we've made that decision for ourselves. Respect, on every level, is the answer: if instead of letting tensions build up inside you, you talk them out or release them in a way that doesn't harm anyone else in the fleet, you give not only the rest of us, but yourself too, a break from stress and drama.
If you need help with something, that's what the rest of the pack is for. Especially the officers, but that brings me to my next point.
Being an officer isn't being called CO/XO. It's not a blue tag. It's not what forums you can see, or what rights you have on TS. Officers are just the people who handle what needs handling in a group of our size. And to be honest, for most of us the biggest wish is to not have to deal with it. But we do, because it needs to be done, and because it's better for everyone if we do it. There's not many things that are unique to officers that are enviable.
And really, I don't hold officers any higher than I hold core members. An active member is an active member. Really, to have power is not to be in a position, but to be someone actively contributing. You don't need to be an officer to make a difference. Or to organize or plan something. Or to argue a point. Or to call attention to something. This is such an important point that it needs to be repeated: It's not what you are, it's who you are and what you do. That is what gets stuff done. "Officer" is just a title, and there are almost endless ways to contribute without it.
This is our new policy. Warnings do nothing but make people nervous, when we could fix the underlying issue and keep everyone's slate clean. So no 2- or 3-strike rule, no warnings, no grudges. Just understanding.
That's it.
Just keep these two points in mind: Unity and Equality.
And finally, as always, keep it sexy.
